Bateleur Nature Reserve caters to nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts like hikers, mountain bikers, stargazers, birders, butterfly and tree lovers.
Explore and discover clear rock pools, unspoiled plains covered in wildlife, deep ravines, and rugged hills with magnificent views. Our wildlife ranges from giraffe, zebra, eland, blue wildebeest, sable antelope, and bless-buck, to smaller game like warthogs, jackal, bush pigs, birds, and insects.
Bateleur is well-known for its accredited Stamvrug Hiking Trails, consisting of a network of about 8 different routes, which cater to beginners, as well as seasoned hikers. Relax around a campfire at one of our self-catering cottages, spacious farmhouses, or hikers’ base camps. Cool off in our perennial mountain streams rock pools and natural clean dams.
Please note that Bateleur is not a pleasure resort. We offer no additional recreational or entertainment facilities other than what Mother Nature has on offer. If unspoiled landscapes, wildlife, boisterous birds, solitude, and magnificent sunsets don’t tickle your fancy, you may prefer a visit to a traditional pleasure resort-like Sun-city. Loud music or any loud noise is a definite NO-NO at Bateleur

HIKING & OTHER ACTIVITIES
The Waterberg is a summer rainfall area and is classified as malaria-free. Summer days are warm to hot (low humidity) with thunderstorms, while winter days are mild, sunny and mostly dry.
Bateleur Nature Reserve is situated 25 km northwest of Warmbaths (Bela-Bela) and 25 km west of Modimolle (Nylstroom) on a plateau in the Waterberg.

Special rates and conditions can be negotiated for visits during the week, on short notice for larger groups and school groups.
4 x 4 Caravans and tents can be accommodated in the immediate vicinity of the Base Camps making use of Base Camp ablutions.
